We know first-hand that, taking into account the hours they work, many small business owners earn less than the national minimum wage. If you’re one of them, or you simply didn’t generate the income you wanted to in 2019, you need to do something different.

The first option is likely to work only for the short term. You may find areas in your overheads and cost of sales where you can tighten things up. But you won’t be able to do this year on year, it will restrict your potential for growth, and it could leave you in an even more vulnerable position. Crucially, cutting costs won’t address the underlying problem that your sales are not sufficient.
The second option makes a lot more sense. Looking at what you can do to increase the value of your sales is a practical strategy that’s sustainable – and certainly a lot more fun!
